Here is the result after the paint job.

Saturday, February 3, 2007

5. step: Here it is ready for a paint job.

4. step: I tend to forget about time and place when i start to sculpt the models. I worked my way to this stage before i remembered to take a new picture from the process.

3. step: I use aluminum foil to sculpt the model, and i try to get it as close to the finish as possible. So i add a lot of "flesh" to the skeleton. I know that its going to take a lot of Super Sculpey just to cower the surface of the foil.

2. step: Using wire i start to make the rough shape of the shrimp character. You can see the legs hanging down from the spine of the skeleton.

1. step: This time i started off with a big nail on the wooden base. I want to build the model at the top of the nail in order to make it "hover" over the base.

The "Shrimpmaster"

I based the "Shrimpmaster" model on this painting that i made years ago. Its quite a challange to get all the details right.
This is my second attempt modeling with Super Sculpey.
Here we go......

Finished!! My first Super Sculpey model Yuppiiii!! This was great fun :-)

I promise there is more to come...

Painted Super Sculpey model

10. step: After baking for 30min at 125 degrees Celsius it looks like this. When its cool its ready to be painted.

9. step: Here i have finished the hands and the rest of the details such as zippers wrinkles seams glasses etc, and its ready to be baked.

8. step: Sculpting is so fun that i forget to take pictures from the process until i reached this stage :-) Yes that's my moulding tool in the left "hand" of the model.

7. step: Sculpting with tinfoil. The framework or skeleton is cowered with tinfoil, and i use a lot of it! I try to make it as close up to the finished model as possible.

6. step: I use wire to make a skeleton or framework for the model. At this stage i try to get the pose right from the start.

5. step: I mounted the snowboard on top of the wooden base using two big screws.

4. step: I used a wooden plank as a base for the model. I just rounded the edges slightly.

3. step: I started with making the snowboard using thin plywood. here you can see how i made tre bends at the ends of the board.

2. step: Colours added in photoshop. I deliberately kept it simple. Now i have a palette to use as a reference when i start painting the model later on.

My first attempt modeling with Super Sculpey

Inspired by the lack of snow, i made this drawing of a boy on a snowboard. For my first attempt modeling with Super Sculpey i wanted a easy design so i could concentrate on getting to know the material.

1.step : Starting with a simple drawing of a boy on a snowboard.
